FAQ
Do I need to change how I record gifts?
No. Thankfold reads the export or spreadsheet you already have.
What does Thankfold do?
It reads a year of gifts from a donations export and prints one year-end contribution statement per donor, with the content of the IRS written acknowledgment (Publication 1771): your organization's name, the date and amount of each cash gift, a description of noncash gifts without a value, and the goods-or-services statement. It doesn't process donations or file anything.
Is my donor data uploaded?
No. Your file is read by JavaScript in your browser tab and never sent to us or anyone else. The data isn't stored, so closing the tab clears it. Your organization details can be saved in this browser.
Which files can I use?
CSV, tab-separated or Excel with one row per gift: donor (and an ID or envelope number if you have one), date received and amount. Fund, method, goods-or-services value, a description for noncash gifts, address and email are optional. Download the template to see the layout.
Who needs a statement?
A donor can't deduct a single gift of $250 or more without a written acknowledgment received before they file. Separate smaller gifts aren't added together, but most churches send every donor a year-end statement — and from 2026, donors who don't itemize can deduct up to $1,000 ($2,000 joint) of cash gifts, so more of them will ask.
What about dinners, galas and other quid pro quo gifts?
If a donor paid more than $75 and received goods or services, the statement must give a good-faith estimate of their value and say only the excess is deductible. Put the value in a goods-or-services column and Thankfold shows it with the deductible amount.
What's free?
Importing any number of donors, the totals and every check, plus 5 donor statements on screen and in print (with a footer). Pro prints every statement without the footer and exports the mail-merge CSV, every gift and the Excel workbook.
What isn't covered?
Valuing donated property (the donor does that), Form 8283 or 8282, state charity registration, processing donations and emailing statements. It doesn't decide whether a gift is deductible.
Is this tax advice?
No. Thankfold applies IRS Publication 1771 and the 2026 rules in Publication 6196 to the data you provide. Ask your tax adviser what applies to your organization.
